In a series of four interviews for Editage Insights, Overleaf co-founder Dr. John Hammersley talks with Donald Samulack, President of US operations for Editage, on the topic of collaborative writing and publishing in the context of science and research.

Part 1: Collaborative writing and the origins of Overleaf

In this first segment of the interview series, John gives an outline of the main features of Overleaf, and the value it brings to researchers and authors when writing and publishing their work.

John goes on to discuss the partnerships being formed with publishers and other services providers involved in the journal publication workflow in order to help streamline the whole process of taking a manuscript from an idea, all the way through to publication.

Part 2: Redefining scientific collaboration with a multilingual writing and publishing platform

In this second segment of the series, John and Don discuss Overleaf as a platform that enables collaboration across all stakeholders in publishing, from authors and supervisors to peer reviewers and journal editors. John also describes some of the features of Overleaf that help support collaboration in different languages, and between authors with different levels of expertise.

In addition, the ability of Overleaf to automatically format a document according to a particular specification (e.g. to a particular journal style or for a university PhD thesis) allows the author to focus on the content of their manuscript, and for journal editors and university staff to simplify their instructions for authors - all they now need to do is provide a link to the appropriate template on Overleaf.
