The CPU scheduling is the basis of multi-programming operating systems. By switching the CPU among processes, the operating system can make the computer more productive. The scheduler controls the way processes are managed in the operating system. Linux supports preemptive multitasking, this means that the process scheduler decides which process runs and when. Balance performance across different computer configurations is one challenge in modern operating systems.Linux has two separate process-scheduling algorithms. If a Linux system performs similar tasks in a regular manner, it could be useful to implement optimizations to the Linux scheduler to optimize the performance of those tasks. In this project, we analyze and evaluate the impact of changing the kernel values on the performance of the calculation of 8,765,4321 digits of pi using the Leibniz formula measuring the time that the system takes to perform the calculation.

The fundamental necessity for water is a widespread issue affecting many communities across the globe. In this project, our team sought to provide an innovative solution to this problem for a small community with access to a relatively close source of flowing water. Resultant flow rate of water was calculated to be 0.498 L/min. Stress and strain analysis on individual subsections of the system were as follows: -44.2 MPa for bending moment in the rod; -7.04 MPa for shear stresses in the rod of the axis; -8.88E-5 for shear strain in the rod ; -1.11 MPa and .429 MPa of shear stresses in the L brackets; -0.123 MPa for radial stress of spiral, -0.422 MPa for hoop stress of spiral, -2.10 MPa for bending moment of spiral, and -0.176 MPa for the maximum shear stress of the spiral pump on the rotating wheel. The focus of the design remained fixated on water acquisition; however, further additions can be made for water purification.

After the fixture was sealed within the bell jar, the Margherita 2 underwent bakeout and a test seal on a one-inch tile. Following this small success, a larger project of sealing a larger tile during cesiation launched in the final week of the author's summer in the LAPPD Lab. Central to the ability to control these processes is the ability to monitor temperatures, pressures, and RGA plots as well as adjust heating inputs accurately and timely. This report documents the heating procedures, basic sealing cycle, and plotting past events or in real-time with the Margherita 2 infrastructure.

Through the modification of the kernel on a Ubuntu system, we managed to solve the n-Queens problem after changing the default time-slice, swappiness, latency and wakeup-granularity to different values and testing the problem.

The Linux kernel controls the way tasks (or processes) are managed in the running system. The task scheduler, sometimes called process scheduler, is the part of the kernel that decides which task to run next. In this project its analyzed the behavior of scheduler by changing a default value from the runtime scheduling. The default value is 950000µs, or 0.95 seconds for the sched\_rt\_runtime\_us or scheduler realtime running variable. Meaning that 5% of the CPU time is reserved for processes that don't run under a real-time or deadline scheduling policy. This value in this file specifies how much of the "period" time can be used by all real-time and deadline scheduled processes on the system. The AIO-Stress which shows the obtained results in the different tests is an a-synchronous I/O benchmark created by SuSE which is is a German Linux distribution provider and business unit of Novell, Inc.

The objective is to study the effect of different experimental parameters on the reconstruction of the density of states (DoS) and to verify the viability of the 1D/2D simulation model developed at GeePs. Beside the calculation of the DoS through the modulated photo-current method (MPC), the ambipolar minority carrier diffusion length is measured through steady state photocarrier grating (SSPG) and the majority carrier lifetime / mobility product is measured through steady state photo-conductivity (SSPC). The measurements were observed to be in agreement with the theoretical simulations, but further experiments are needed to accurately conclude the need of a 2D simulation for the MPC experiment.
